These include the famous 12th century Lichfield Cathedral, the Garrick Theatre, Beacon Park and many more architecturally spectacular historic houses. In fact, Lichfield is well known for being a city filled with historic relevance, predominantly because it is the birthplace of Samuel Johnson, writer of the first English Language Dictionary and you can even visit the museum dedicated to him. Stowe Pool is also less than a 10 minute walk from the hotel and is an idyllic spot for a peaceful stroll or some afternoon fishing.
In addition to being a convenient hotel near Lichfield city center, this charming 18th Century coaching Inn has bags of character inside. So, when you've unpacked your own bags, sit back, relax and enjoy the homey atmosphere. If you're here on business or simply taking a break from it, our cozy lounge bar, open fires and stylish evening restaurant will make you feel at ease, with all the fine food and drinks you could wish for. Free parking and free Wi-Fi are also available to all guests. The Best Western is well located for the Midlands motorway network so you will find yourself within easy reach of major cities such as Birmingham, where you can enjoy a more vibrant pace of life, if only for the day.
Wherever you end up, you can be sure a warm welcome awaits you back at the hotel. A delightful Georgian hotel set in the centre of a lovely city. The restaurant deserves a special note as both dinner and breakfast were superb. The staff as always were polite and efficient.
Ample safe parking at the rear of the hotel. We are all pleased that you enjoyed another visit with us and hope to see you again soon. This hotel is set in the centre of Lichfield. The building itself is old and tired but has many original features going back to the day when it would have been a coaching inn. Inside it is clean and tidy and the staff are very helpful.
Lichfield is a typical middle England historic town with some interesting local residents- the like of which you do not find in my home town of London! There are a good of restaurants nearby and the menu in the hotel is good too. Breakfast was buffet style but freshly cooked free range eggs were also on the menu.
The car park and the Wi-fi are free but the entrance to the car park is a little tricky to find. It would have been easier back in the day with your horse and the cobbled arched entrance is still there - but only for pedestrians now. Excellent value for money. We do hope you choose to stay with us again in the future. Just stayed here one night on a cycle tour. Lovely receptionist checked us in and then another showed us where our bikes could be stored safely.
The hotel is in a nice old building from s and very conveniently located for all the sights so we could walk to them all. We enjoyed a good evening meal in their Darwin Restaurant. The room was small and a bit dark but perfectly adequate and very clean. So why the 'but'? Our room was on the street side and any loud groups of people passing could be heard very clearly. Fortunately it was a Monday and we weren't much bothered and not at all after 10pm, but I suggest a room at the back would be better.
Then after the great dinner the breakfast was a let-down. Nearly all tinned fruit, not fresh and the scrambled egg was as hard as rubber. Would probably stay again but they could do better. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused by the noise from the street and I thank you for your constructive feedback on breakfast quality. Stayed for 2 nights. Room and public areas spotlessly clean. Hot water, fresh towels and very comfy bed. All staff on reception, in restaurant and housekeeping very friendly. Great buffet breakfast.
Had 2 excellent evening meals in restaurant - steak highly recommended! A real bonus is the free hotel parking and with all the sights of Lichfield within walking distance meant we didn't have to move the car until our departure. We didn't experience any noise at night although I suspect this could be a problem at the front in summer if you wanted windows open. All round excellent value. We are pleased you enjoyed your time with us. I am sorry that the service at check-in was not to our usual high standard and I apologise for the annoyance and frustration this may have caused.
Please be assured your feedback will be internally discussed to alleviate such problems in the future. Sill very nice stay thank you. We had a two night weekend stay at The George in a superior double room. The hotel is perfectly located in Lichfield - it is absolutely central and has convenient car parking immediately behind the hotel.
The hotel has a strong team of staff across the board. The reception let us know when a space in their car park became available, which was good service, so we could move our car. The staff in the restaurant were professional and helpful in their service.
At dinner, they arranged a special dish for me, off the menu, to manage a food allergy. The food at dinner, and at breakfast, was very good. Fresh and good quality ingredients, well prepared and served. Our room was spacious and really comfortable.
We had ample storage space and a nice seating area. We also had air conditioning in the room. The furnishings and decor were traditional in style, and they were in good quality and condition. The hotel's lounge and bar area was comfortable and attractive too. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us and hope to see you again soon. Came to Lichfield to see friends and enjoy the Prom. We really enjoyed this hotel. Our room was large and a beautiful bathroom. The bed was so wonderful and the linen is top quality. They have a fabulous courtyard to meet friends and a glass of wine.
The weather was great so we used the courtyard quite a bit. The location is perfect to walk everywhere. And parking for our friends. The staff at the George are so good at their jobs. They are kind, friendly, and just plain old great people. The housekeeping staff are perfection. Again we had a wonderful stay at the George. We will be back next year and will try and get the same room at this fine hotel. We went to see a concert at The Guildhall so decided to stay over.
The George is a pleasant hotel with car parking in the centre of town. There are many restaurants and bars within walking distance also various local museums and attractions. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room was quite small but had everything needed for an overnight stay.
The only thing I would say is we would have preferred a bigger bed and darker curtains to block out the street lights. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, though I would have liked more fresh fruit. We did get overlooked on ordering our tea and toast before we helped ourselves to the cooked breakfast.
We had to ask for it because no one came over. The teapot was quite small, I suppose we could have ordered more but at that stage we could not be bothered. The breakfast plates were not piled up by the hot food, so you had to ask for one. Also they were very small for a full English.
We did have a nice stay though in all. Please be assured your feedback regarding breakfast will be internally discussed to alleviate such problems in the future. Mark S, General Manager at Best Western Lichfield City Centre The George Hotel, responded to this review Congratulations on your 34th anniversary we are please you enjoyed your time with us and we hope to see you again in the future.
Just spent 2 nights with my wife at this hotel attending a function in Lichfield , on booking I requested a quiet room away from the front of the hotel as all the noise would be coming from Bird Street which the hotel faces onto. I did complain to reception the next morning to be told we are a a city centre hotel so you have to accept son noise. The room itself was ok except there was no not water from the shower and no water pressure. I could Wee quicker. So not a very enjoyable stay at Best Western Lichfield.
I can't comment on any thing else accept breakfast was good. Will I stay there again ,no I have had better nights in the Premier Inn round the corner. I am extremely sorry that the noise from the alley way effected your stay which is an unfortunate downside to our central location in the vibrant City of Lichfield. Please note we have taken your comments on-board. Lovely room comfortable bed clean and tidy, didn't eat there menu not to our taste but WetherSpoons down the road.
In city centre ideal for shopping had a drink in bar barman not the happiest of people. Parking behind hotel through public car park. My friends and I had the loveliest of lunches in the lounge area of the hotel. The food was excellent with a good selection of sandwiches and light meals, I was very impressed with how generous the servings were and at very reasonable prices.
I just wish the service had been smoother, less chaotic. The barman on duty Sat 24 Aug could improve customers experience by smiling. We will definitely return such good value has to be experienced again. Stayed 3 nights over August bank Holiday weekend. The hotel is well situated for the city centre with a car park that can get quite full at times. On arrival we had to wait a while before someone appeared to check us in. We were told our room was on the second floor and "there is no lift". No assisstance was offered with the luggage, thankfully my old bones had enough strength to lug our case up the stairs.
Our room was fine for the price it was warmly furnished and clean if a little dated. It had all the equipment we needed though the double bed felt a bit small. Over the three days the room was cleaned well. They do have an odd offer of waiving room cleaning during your stay for 1 free drink in the bar. It made us laugh anyway.
We slept well and were generally happy with our room. We didn't use the restaurant during the stay. We did use the bar and the staff were helpful and pleasant. Generally it did the job at a reasonable price. Restaurant itself is light and airy and nicely decorated. Staff were friendly and polite and gave good service throughout the meal. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and will certainly revisit. Having ed and requested a room with a double bed, the room had twin beds.Lichfield ca women being dirty
