It was used to al traffic characteristics and requirements of the traffic flows and establish sessions. Each of these RSVP messages is actually made up of various objects which serves a specific function. We will dig deeper into a few of these messages and the objects they contain later. An ERO can be strictly or Loose defined. All the intermediate hops looks at that PATH message and reserves the resource requested if available and then forwards it downstream towards the Tail end router.
Hmm… Did I just contradicted myself? Each LSR along the path does not start resource reservation and label distribution toward the HE router until it receives a label from the downstream router remember its Ordered Control. The Tail router has one ingress label. All required resources for example, bandwidth are reserved along the path.
RSVP-TE is a Soft state protocol, meaning it needs periodical exchanging of aling messages between two peering routers to keep the state up. If the exchange of aling messages stops, then RSVP adjacency times out after a timer Refresh timer expires. This refresh needs to happen at every hop between the adjacent routers along the LSP-Path.
So in the case of routing protocols e. LDP , Keep-Alive or Hello messages constitute a very small portion of the total traffic as you have a small of adjacent neighbors, hence the of adjacencies which needs to be maintained is limited. If all the RSVP session at a midpoint router requires refresh at the same time, then it can result into a decent volume of traffic and may end up in competing with customer traffic.
RSVP-TE uses the following timers to control the refresh interval to prevent refresh synchronization:. If a RESV message is missing from a downstream router then it causes the ResvTear message to be sent out in the upstream direction. Best explanation ever ,with regard to transfer of information with a very small write up. Please keep writing such wonderful posts. Good explanation sir. But when RESV is routed is hop to hop. The purpose of RRO in path message used only during path failure case.
I need a quick clarification. You have mentioned the resoures will be reserved if available when the PATH message traverses to the Downstream router. You have also mentioned resourse reservation does not start until the label is allocated from downstream router ordered control. Seems to contradict. Thanks for asking the question. Let me try to expand a bit more and see if this make sense.
If all is good then it regenerates a new PATH message and sends it towards the next router. As you can see during the PATH message phase, routers do a provisional checks to make sure it can do the reservation but the actual label allocation and final resource reservation happens when a transit router recieves the RESV message. What is an LSP? In the below fig.
It is an end-to-end representation of the RSVP sessions along each hop. Nothing new here. What is a Path: The path is a logical entity containing a list of IP hops. A path can be associated with any LSPs to control their routes. Comments Excellent post! Hello Diptanshu, Excellent post It really helps reading such posts, because not everything can be understood from the books. Hopefully that answers the question. Thanks Dip. Great blog to refresh the basics. Vijay, Thanks for asking the question. How rsvp works
